U.S. Veteran

Sam D. Payne, Jr., age 88, of Maryville, passed away Monday, June 4, 2012, at Kindred Healthcare of Maryville. He was a veteran of the US Army and owned and operated Sam Payne Sawmill in Six Mile. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Dean Boring Payne, Sr.; daughter, Janis Lauren Payne; brother, Denver Payne; 12 paternal half-brothers and sisters; and one maternal half-sister. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Simerley Payne; daughters, Geri and Christine Payne; grandchildren and spouses, Tracee Payne, Daren Payne, Courtnie and Josh Graham, Dustin Perry, D’Rhonda and Max Sloan, Trever and Lori Lane, and Tessa and Gary Crisp; great-grandchildren and spouse, Corey and Glenda Sloan, Jeremy Sloan, Chelsea Lane, Michaela Crisp, Jessica Payne, Daisy Payne, Connor Graham, Bryce Sloan, and Kella Robinson; great-great-grandchildren, Derrick and Dani Sloan; brothers, Dale and D. C. Payne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Birdell and Ernest Yates, Leola Sparks, and Betty and Sam Sauputo; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 7:00 PM Friday, June 8, 2012, at Miller Funeral Home Magnolia Chapel, Rev. Bill White officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a favorite charity on Sam’s behalf. Family and friends will gather 11:00 AM Saturday at Grandview Cemetery for the interment.
